Looking for fashion icons and celebrities to inspire your own formal affair events or weddings? This month we have received many inquiries to custom made dresses from our clients favourite designers. Some may not have the budget for these luxury dresses, we can still take inspiration from those stunning looks.

It’s always best to scour magazines and websites for dress ideas and pick a theme or look for the event. Your theme can be based on a colour, such as glamorous red or chic black, or can be centred around a celebrity's style you admire (my personal favourite style icon – Kate Middleton). If you prefer and settle on classic simple dress with clean cut lines, then refine your style to Audrey Hepburn’s look.

If your event is being held at a place with a bright colour palette try and blend with the most dominate colour. The ‘less is more’ red carpet approach works better for some, however there is nothing wrong to go ‘all out’. Never stop yourself because you think that something is too much. The best thing to ask yourself is if something looks good on you or not.

Most importantly, if you have a formal event coming up, plan well in advance. Don’t leave it to the very last minute, custom made dress will take at least 1-2 months to complete. Make alterations and practice wearing your dress and heels. Many women opt for dresses that they typically do not wear for night time events. As such, not only does the dress usually need to be tailored, but you need to practice moving, sitting and walking comfortably in the dress.
