Diva Darling ~Unique with Style~: Going Maxi!

I’ve just stepped out of the shower, it’s a super hot day and I have a ton of errands to run. The last thing I want to wear is a pair of skinny jeans. That would also mean that I’d have to look for a top. I’m not one to lay my clothes out the night before, so as I step into my closet, wearing my bathrobe, I have a few precious minutes to determine what I should wear for the day.

Maxi dress has an undeniable element of romanticism connected to it, which is probably why I love it so much. Maxi is back and bigger than ever right now in women’s fashion. If you thought it died last year with the whole “Boho” scene, you couldn’t be more wrong, as they are still coming out in their dozens right now for the high summer season. We love the maxi dress here at Diva Darling and we think it should be in every woman’s wardrobe this year.

The trick is to find a maxi dress with a great silhouette that emphasizes your best features. Getting the look wrong can make you feel like you’re wearing a tent, which is why some people avoid it. Choosing the right print or colour can also be daunting. If you don’t want to walk around looking like a tropical forest, choose a solid colour or a geometric pattern.

Maxi dress is a statement piece itself, so it needs little improvement. If you like to accessorize, wear it with one item of jewellery, whether it’s a necklace, long earrings or a thick cuff, but not all together. I like to wear my maxi dress with jewelled flip-flops. Depending on the length of the dress they add an element of unexpected sparkle in a playful game of hide and seek as I walk. Also, when it comes to maxi length, I’m in favour of “touching your ankles” as opposed to “dragging on the floor” length.
